Avestix’s Top Five Blogs for 2024

In 2024, Avestix launched a twice-weekly blog to provide our clients, partners and followers insights into key market trends, investment opportunities and new technologies. This material has struck a chord. Since its launch, the number of readers has grown exponentially.

Although blog readership grows each week, below is a recap of the five most popular blogs we published in 2024.

How OpenAI’s o1 Could Change the Artificial Intelligence Paradigm

Ash Aly, Avestix’s chief technology officer, contributed one of last year's most-read articles. In How OpenAI's o1 Model Could Reshape Artificial Intelligence, Ash looked at OpenAI's o1 model which —unlike many next-gen AI models — wasn’t simply an AI “facelift” offering only incremental improvements. As Ash explained, o1 “represents a paradigm shift in the entire artificial intelligence landscape.”

In his estimation, the new o1 model represented a pivotal moment in the evolution of artificial intelligence because it was capable of “effectively mimicking human reasoning through a sophisticated chain of thought.” It also sets new standards for what all AI systems can achieve, “promising advancements in safety, alignment, and the expansion of AI applications across diverse fields.” Ash isn’t alone in his enthusiasm. No less than the World Economic Forum determined that “o1 … aims to make better artificial intelligence (AI) accessible to more people.”

Accessing Today’s Most Cutting-Edge Technologies

Artificial intelligence played a supporting role in another of Avestix’s most popular blogs of 2024.

Last summer, we offered an in-depth look at one of our most popular funds, the Avestix Venture Capital Fund. As we explained in the article, the Fund “invests primarily in companies spearheading innovative uses of  AI, robotics, fintech, public blockchains, quantum computing and IoT.” What’s more, the Fund managers carefully screen the companies to identify which are both poised for potential growth and positioned to “unleash the transformative power of some of today’s most promising technologies.”

Emerging Opportunities for Family Offices

Avestix produced a wealth of content in 2024 focused on the growing popularity of family offices. Among the FO-related topics we explored were steps firms could take to remain competitive and the risks FOs run by neglecting their own cybersecurity needs

By far the most popular family office article we shared was a piece penned by Avestix CEO Susan Lindeque examining the high-net-worth opportunity awaiting those firms that help manage the so-called “great wealth transfer.” As Susan wrote, “U.S.-based family offices have an important role to play in guiding and educating their younger clients in managing the unprecedented wave of wealth coming their way. [They] can take confidence knowing that not only do high-net-worth investors need guidance, but they value it.”

As Go Home Improvement Retailers, So Goes the Housing Market?

As mentioned, one of the goals behind the blog is to educate investors, and — last August — when we noted a trend where do-it-yourself home improvement retail outlets were closing their doors, we offered insights on what it might mean for the housing market in general.

“LL Flooring’s bankruptcy stands out for another reason: it’s reflective of an uncertain U.S. housing market,” we wrote. “It’s feasible that contractors, carpenters, and consumers may soon be paying higher prices at Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, True Value, Menards, and the other home improvement retailers left standing.”

Could Crypto Go Mainstream by 2030?

Avestix CTO Ash Aly penned another article that resonated with readers when he examined the roles cryptocurrencies could play in the global economy, circa 2030.

“By 2030, Bitcoin … could gain enough mainstream attention that it may play a more significant role in global financial markets, particularly as a hedge against macroeconomic risks,” Ash wrote. “However, the inherent volatility that all cryptocurrencies share remains a challenge, and their role as a stable store of value will be highly dependent on market maturation and regulatory developments around the globe.”

Yet, despite these challenges, Aly suggests that widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies might ease the complexities of cross-border trade, while “enabling the unbanked and underbanked to gain greater access to mainstream financial services.”
